Venetian sawmill and wood museum - Coredo
The Coredo sawmill hosts a wood museum where the tools of the woodsman, the carpenter, the joiner and the carter are on display.
The Coredo sawmill, owned by the council, was once the mill furthest downstream of six mills and sawmills which used the water arising from an aqueduct built in the mid-1800s. It was in operation until 1970. Renovated in 1994, it is open for educational and demonstration purposes. In 2002, in the premises of the mill the Coredo and Tavon Ecomuseum Association set up the wood museum where 150 woodworking tools are displayed. These are the tools of the woodsman, the carpenter, the joiner and the carter, showing the various activities from cutting trees in the forest to transporting them to the valley floor, the craft work on beams, scàndole (wooden roof shingles) and wheels. The samples of wood show the story of the trees, giving information on climatic trends and their influence on this environment over the years.
